Europe

Europe has some of the most romantic destinations in the world, in fact two of the most romantic cities of the world are in Europe and on this list. Can you guess? If you said Paris or Venice, then you would be correct. However, as you read through the following recommendations from our awesome team of travel writers, you will discover, these are not the only cities considered the most romantic in the world.

Venice

Recommended by Jeanine from Lets go a Wandering

Venice one of the most romantic destinations in Europe, and known as one of the great cities of love in the world. This is the perfect place to visit with your love for your next special occasion. As well as being the perfect place to take your Valentine, as February, is a popular time for Carnevale.

Originally, Caranevale was a celebration of a great victory in the late 1100’s. By the 18th century Venice’s Carnavale was a popular tourist destination, where people could mingle and meet, often a romantic interlude or two would occur. The Carnevale was banned in 1797 with only small private events taking place, often in seclusion. Resurrected in 1979 to become one of the most popular romantic destinations in the world.

However, it’s not all about Carnevale, Venice is a perfect stop for any itinerary to take your love. Float around the canals whilst you and your love are serenaded in true Venetian style. Stroll the miraid of small streets and alleys. Enjoy an amazing private dinner or Michelin starred restaurant, a visit to the opera at Teatro La Fenice, a most renowned landmark of Venice.

Our favourite thing to do is people watch in  Piazza San Marco, sitting drinking espresso and wandering around the Piazza. Visiting the Doge’s Palace with a tour that takes you around the secret passages and shows the route of escape of Giacomo Casanova. Or embark on a trip around the Venetian Islands.

One amazing tour to participate in is Lucia’s Secrets of Venice Tour. Where you and your love get first hand knowledge and a private tour, off the beaten track discovering the private gardens of Venice. Lucia a local of Venice will show you some unique secrets: a mystic place, a mysterious crypt, private courtyards, gardens and palazzi.

Lake Como – Italy

Recommended by Joanna from The World in my Pocket

Lake Como is such a romantic destination, a perfect includion to the most romantic destinations in the world. It’s recommended to spend at least one night in one of the towns around Lake Como, and among the most romantic are Bellagio, Varenna and Menaggio. There are plenty of things to do in Bellagio, but if you want to surprise your loved one with a unique experience, choose to stay overnight at Villa Serbelioni. This is a private hotel inside one of the most famous villas on Lake Como, and you can’t visit it unless you are a guest.

Another great thing to do in the Como area is to take the ferry and visit some of the towns along the lake. Each of them offers something different, from incredible views to delicious culinary experiences, from wine tastings to private boat trips at sunset.

For one of the most romantic destinations in the world, a romantic dinner with a view is perfect. Choose one of the water front restaurants in Varenna. Also, make sure to try the local cuisine, which uses fish from the lake and local ingredients grown in Lombardia. The local dish is the perch risotto.

A great restaurant where you can enjoy a wine tasting with your dinner is Rivenoteca, in the historical centre of Como. Here you can sample as many wines as you want, in their cellar.

Alberobello – Italy

Recommended by Milijana from World Travel Connector

Gorgeous Alberobello in Puglia region is one of the most romantic destinations in the world and Italy.

I fell head over heels for Alberobello on my trip to Puglia. The small town of Alberobello, with its tiny and white dry-stone houses, appears straight out of a fairytale. Charming Alberobello has more than 1500 trulli houses. The cute trulli houses look like hobbit homes, while adorable Alberobello looks like a hobbit land.

I particularly enjoyed staying in a trullo (trullo sg., trulli pl.) home. It is no secret that I love unique stays, especially when they are cozy as lovely trulli. Not many places can beat the coziness of trulli houses.

However, the magical town of Alberobello gets even more magical for the Day of Love.

The streets of Alberobello get decorated with red hearts, balloons, and flowers. Every corner of Alberobello speaks about love. And, as you walk the streets of Alberobello, you get the feeling of being a part of a true fairy-tale story.

So, if you like unique and fairy-tale places, head to Alberobello for Valentine’s Day. Two days in Alberobello would be enough to soak up the romantic atmosphere of Alberobello.

Book a cute trullo for your partner and yourself for two nights, and enjoy your fairy-tale love story in Alberobello.

There are so many memorable things to do in Alberobello for romantic souls, it truly is one of the most romantic destinations in the world.

Stay in a snuggly trullo, stroll the charming streets of Alberobello, and tour famous trulli buildings. Visit the beautiful Santo Antonio trullo church, enjoy the trulli bars in Alberobello, and reserve a table for two at Trulli e Puglia Wine Bar with an excellent selection of wines from Puglia and tasty delicacies from Italy.

I promise you will fall in love with Alberobello and stoke the flames of love and passion with your partner!

Rome – Italy

Recommended by Sam from Find Love and Travel

My number one recommendation for anybody searching for one of the most Romantic destinations in the world, is Rome, Italy. Perfect for a romantic trip even a Valentine’s Day getaway

Italy is already widely recognized for its romance-filled culture, and Rome delivers exactly that. Although February may be a little cold during this time in Rome, it won’t take away the charm of Rome.

To really experience Rome to its full potential, I would recommend spending at least 4 days in Rome. Some of the best activities to do in Rome, especially for couples, are to have drinks by the Pantheon, throw coins into the Trevi Fountain, explore the elegant Villa Borghese Gardens, and wander into churches, that usually have the most incredible painted ceilings you have ever seen.

Furthermore, you have to do the classic Rome attractions, including the Colosseum, the Vatican, the Roman Forum, and the Spanish Steps. Don’t forget to enjoy lots of Gelato while wandering around the streets.

A hotel that just exceeds expectations is the luxurious H’All Tailor Suite Roma, which is in a prime location (close to shopping malls and traditional Italian restaurants). The hotel also has its own Michelin-star restaurant with a menu consisting of all the flavours of Italy and delicate wines for you to indulge in! Fit for one of the romantic destinations in the world.

Lake Bled – Slovenia

Recommended by Lexi from Stylish Packing Lists

We found Lake Bled in Slovenia was one of the most fantastic romantic destinations in the world, a perfect place to spend Valentines’ day. The lake is well known as a romantic spot, with Bled Island resting in the centre. We spent Valentine’s day here (as a day trip), but you can also stay overnight. It’s a little cold in February so make sure you have some warmer clothes in your packing list

The main thing we did while here was stroll around the lake, which is roughly an hour and a half’s walk. The walk is fairly easy and is well paved. You can even see Bled Castle from the lake on a nearby hill. Speaking of the castle, we’d recommend a visit while you’re here as the architecture is interesting and you also get a bird’s eye view of the lake.

For another romantic view of the lake, we recommend the slightly more strenuous hike up to Mala Osojnica which begins on the west side of the lake. The path is more rustic here, with a metal staircase near the top, and rope in certain places in case you need assistance. The views from the top are beautiful. Walking up and down the trail took us about 60 minutes combined.

One of the best things we did was to visit the island in the centre of the lake, called Bled Island. You can hop in a paddle boat with your partner and row out. Boat rentals can be found around the lake and generally go for 20-30 euros an hour, and its roughly 15 minutes to and from the island. On the island you can ring a bell while making a wish, or just wander around. In the boat, you can enjoy your own Notebook moment (minus the hundred odd swans and torrential rain).

Dubrovnik – Croatia

Recommended by Elena from The Carry-On Chronicles

Widely considered one of the most romantic destinations in the world, Dubrovnik, Croatia is the perfect place to enjoy with your love. Between its medieval towers and its optimal position alongside the sparkling azure water of the Adriatic, this fortified fairy-tale city exemplifies romance.

One of my top recommendations for couples is to walk the Walls of Dubrovnik. This paid experience offers an unrivalled panoramic perspective over the city and is well-worth the splurge for your love on a special occasions such as Valentine’s Day. To enjoy a hand-in-hand stroll sans crowds, my best advice is to visit the Dubrovnik Walls around the 8AM opening.

Another unforgettable experience for couples awaits atop Mount Srd. Hop aboard a cable car – or hike up with your love, if you’re feeling ambitious – to enjoy the most spectacular sunset over Dubrovnik.

End the evening with a romantic dinner for two at one of Dubrovnik’s many fabulous restaurants. For an unforgettable rooftop dining experience, book a reservation at my favorite hidden gem – Stara Loza Restaurant Terrace at Prijeko Palace Boutique Hotel. For an even more luxurious rooftop experience, head to Above 5 for a fabulous fixed menu with a rooftop view. Alternatively, for a romantic dinner at ground level, I recommend Bistro Revelin, located just inside Ploce Gate.

While Dubrovnik is small enough to explore in a weekend, you and your Valentine may wish to extend your trip to do some island-hopping. Korcula is a favorite amongst couples and is about a two-hour ferry ride from Dubrovnik.

Paris – France

Recommended by Sabrina from Shades of Summer

One of the most special and romantic destinations in the world, that I have taken with my partner was a romantic weekend getaway to Paris for Valentine’s Day. There is no more romantic city that I could think of than the unofficial city of Love.

Paris is a town with many charming cafés, beautiful and enchanting landmarks, and fabulous restaurants.

In order to take it all in, I recommend planning a stay of at least four nights. There are many special things and dates you can take your partner on in Paris for Valentine’s Day. Many restaurants offer a special romantic Valentine’s menu of traditional French food paired with elegant French wine and champagne.

My favourite romantic date experience in Paris was, however, the Gala dinner cruise on the Seine. We boarded a small boat with about 15 tables around 07:00 pm. We were greeted with a glass of champagne as the boat slowly started moving down the river Seine. As we were spoiled with a fabulous three-course surprise meal, we passed by all the famous sights of Paris by night, such as Notre Dame church and the Eiffel Tower.

Our boat hovered near the Eiffel Tower exactly at 09:00 pm, when it was lit up with thousands of small lights. In the background, soft piano music was playing, making the experience even more enchanting. This was definitely a Valentine’s Day experience I will never forget!

Lyon – France

Recommended by Kristin Lee from Global Travel Experiences

If you’re looking for a romantic weekend getaway in Europe to celebrate Valentine’s Day or a weekend getaway with your love, then consider visiting Lyon, France. The city is located just south of Paris and offers couples all kinds of activities to commemorate their relationship. It is just one of the most romantic destinations in the world you can’t miss.

For example, the city is known for its picturesque views, particularly along the Rhône and Saône rivers, which pass directly through the city. And one of my favourite ways to explore Lyon is via boat because it allows you to see the city from a completely different perspective. You can even opt to enjoy a traditional Lyonnais dinner aboard a private cruise!

In addition, for couples who love good red or white wine, the region surrounding Lyon is highly regarded for its many vineyards. Thus, I recommend doing an easy day trip to taste the region’s delicious wines. For me, this was a wonderful way to both immerse myself in the local culture and learn about the local wine-making methods that France is so famous for!

Ultimately, Lyon resembles the French capital in many ways. However, what I think makes Lyon one of the most romantic places to visit is the fact that the city provides a much more intimate and romantic atmosphere. So, to those who are looking for a less busy version of Paris, consider visiting Lyon.

Marbella – Spain

Recommended by Cristina of My Little World of Travelling

Marbella is one of the most romantic destinations in the world, located in the province of Malaga, in the south of Spain. Its atmosphere allows you to disconnect with your loved one and enjoy the beautiful sunny weather.

One of my favourite parts of Marbella is its old town. It is small but perfect to see historic buildings and monuments, wander its pretty whitewashed streets, which are also decorated with bougainvillaea flowers during spring and summer, and have a meal at Orange Square. Walking around the old town is truly a romantic experience.

During your time in Marbella, don’t miss the opportunity to taste local dishes like espetos (sardine skewers) and ensalada malagueña (Malaga-style salad). However, if you are looking for a top-notch experience, I recommend eating at Skina, a Michelin-star restaurant in the old town.

Another romantic experience I must include is going on a catamaran cruise at sunset. The sunset, the relaxing music, the scenic views, and the company of a loved one makes it an unforgettable experience.

Ideally, you want to visit Marbella for at least a weekend, but you can even spend a week if you plan to go on Marbella’s best day trips which include unique whitewashed villages or go on a road trip around Andalusia.

Malaga – Spain

Recommended by Joanna from Andalucía in my Pocket

Including Malaga, is an extremely romantic city and a must as one of the romantic destinations in the world. If you choose to take your loved one here for Valentine’s Day you should expect mild temperature and plenty of sunshine. Malaga receives over 300 days of sunshine a year.

A great place to stay overnight in Malaga is the Parador hotel, which is located on a hill above the city. From there you can have an incredible view over the city, the harbour, and the Alcazaba.

For a special dinner, head over to one of the restaurants in the touristic harbour of Malaga, alongside the Paseo Maritimo. There is even a Michelin star restaurant here, if you are looking for that unique experience to surprise your loved one with.

For a drink with a view, check out the AC Palacio Hotel, which also has a rooftop pool. They open to non guests after 5PM, if they don’t have private events.

Malaga is a relatively small city, with a beautiful historic old town. Among the best things to do here are visiting the Alcazaba and the Gibralfaro Castle, which overlook the town. The Cathedral is also pretty impressive and deserves a visit. If you are to visit one museum in Malaga, this must be Picasso Museum, which has a large collection of the artist’s works.

If you plan to stay longer, you should take a day trip from Malaga to one of the beautiful whitewashed villages around Andalucia, such as Mijas Pueblo, Setenil de la Frontera or Frigiliana.

Seville – Spain

Recommended by Linn from Amused by Andalucia

One of the most romantic destinations in Europe to take your Valentine is the quaint city of Seville. Where history and the contemporary meet sweet orange trees in the cobblestoned streets. Where the Moors set their archaeological footprint and the Christians followed. I love all the simple romantic things to do in Seville from strolling hand in hand in the Maria Louisa Park to taking a cruise on the Guadalquivir River at sunset.

Just walking around the city after sunset is so romantic with the warmth of the lights in the narrow streets. But my favourite romantic spot is to sit on the benches of Plaza de España with my loved one on a sunny winter day. For Valentine’s Day, there are a whole lot of romantic dinner options in the old town of Seville when you look past the casual tapas bars. I also recommend taking your Valentine for a splurge in the Roman baths enjoying a couple’s massage. I mean, what better after spending hours of sightseeing?

I think Seville is a city that is one of the most romantic destinations in the world, leaving anyone visiting for the first time wanting to go back again which makes it the perfect place to visit with your Valentine for the first time to make it your city. If you like chasing sunsets together, my favorite spots in Seville are the rooftop bars next to La Giralda (or the top of La Giralda itself,) the bars on Calle Betis, and the top of Setas de Sevilla.

Lagos – Portugal

Recommended by Linn from Amused by Algarve

One of the most wonderfully romantic destinations in the world, to take your love is the charming coastal town of Lagos in southern Portugal. Escape the cold European winter weather and enjoy a romantic glass of wine in the sun. The quaint old town makes for the perfect romantic setting, especially in the evenings as the night turns in early and the streetlights give a warm light to the narrow cobbled streets.

There are a lot of wonderful and romantic things to do in Lagos Portugal and I love going on boat trips along the rugged coastline to explore the hidden beaches and sea caves. Lagos is famed for its picturesque beaches and in the winter, there are hardly any people there, so it is extra lovely to walk hand in hand along the beaches that are elegantly divided by arches and cliffs, and the random tunnel.

My favourite site in Lagos is Ponta da Piedade with its rock formations erected from the water and a lovely board walk perfect for sunset walks. Other sites I recommend seeing during a romantic trip to Lagos are Sagres and Benagil Cave. You can also take an evening trip for a romantic dinner in one of the other cute towns like Loulé, Alvor, or Silves. There are many lovely restaurants in Lagos for a candle lit dinner on Valentine’s Day or another equally romantic occasion.

Funchal, Madeira – Portugal

Recommended by Lisa from Nova on the Road

One of the most romantic destinations in the world, I’ve ever been to would be Funchal on the Portuguese island of Madeira. This vibrant city filled with colors is a wonderful destination to take your love to, especially for a special occasion such as Valentine’s Day!

In February the temperature will be between 14°C and 20°C, so Funchal’s a great place for escaping the cold!

In Funchal, there are countless romantic activities or day trips you can do, like:

  • Simply strolling through the historic town
  • Tasting wine at Blandy’s wine lodge
  • Take the cable car up and visit Monte Palace botanical garden
  • Visit the huge Farmers’ market
  • Go on a whale and dolphin spotting tour
  • Take a romantic Levada hike
  • Drive to one of the most picturesque towns of Madeira, like Santana, Câmara de Lobos, or Porto Moniz
  • Dive into a dreamy natural pool together
  • Drink some afternoon tea at Belmond Reid’s palace

As you see, there are a lot of things you can do in and around Funchal. As Madeira is small (but so diverse!), you can road trip anywhere in a day and still be back at your hotel in time for dinner.

I simply loved every single activity listed above because these activities are so unique. Some of these activities, like Levada hikes, are nowhere else to be found but on this island, which makes it even more special!

Something you must do with your love is to have afternoon tea at Belmond Reid’s palace. This is the most popular choice for people visiting around Valentine’s Day and something extremely special!

I would recommend visiting Funchal for 4 to 7 days, so you can also explore the magnificent island a bit more.

Visiting Funchal, for your special romantic holiday destination, will bring you unforgettable memories to cherish together!

Lincoln – England

Recommended by Abi from I’m Going on an Adventure

Lincoln is a beautiful place to take your love, especially for a special occasion such as Valentines as it’s got a stunning cathedral and medieval castle which makes for the perfect romantic getaway. Not only that, but the city is also full of old architecture, winding cobblestone streets and quaint shops to give it a rather bewitching undertone. It’s also a fun place to visit with world-class restaurants, fancy cocktail bars and lively pubs to warm anyone’s spirit. What more could you ask as one of the most romantic destinations in the world.

Although Lincoln isn’t the biggest of cities it’s still somewhere which should be enjoyed over a couple of days. With a whole host of charming accommodations available, an overnight stay will make any visit to Lincoln more romantic.

The best thing to do in Lincoln is to stroll around the cathedral grounds before entering and taking a guided tour. It’s free to enter but you get so much more information about the history of the cathedral and Lincoln on the tour. Afterwards, a tour of the castle is always fun, inside its grounds is an old prison which is open to the public.

You can walk around this area where the castle is, known as the Bailgate, exploring countless boutique shops before braving the journey down Steep Hill to reach the high street. Steep Hill is a very steep road full of charming shops and tea rooms. On the high street, you’ll be able to do even more shopping, you’ll find an indoor mini golf course called Glory Holes which is a fun date. Head towards the Cornhill Quarter for a bite to eat and more luxury shopping!

Iceland

Recommended by Pamela from The Directionally Challenged Traveler

Iceland is probably one of the most romantic destinations in the world, to take your love. Reykjavik has even earned the nickname “the Paris of the North”, it’s the perfect destination for lovebirds.

Iceland is home to nature not found in many other places. From volcanoes to relaxing hot springs to black sand beaches dotted with ice (affectionately nicknamed Diamond Beach), Iceland has something for every type of traveller. While we thoroughly enjoyed relaxing in the Blue Lagoon, we preferred going hunting for the Northern Lights and exploring the Eyjafjallajökull volcano!

While February in Iceland is cold, bundling up in winter gear is worth it for the views. Hiking up (and even behind) some of the most beautiful waterfalls in Iceland is a memory my husband and I treasure. Skogafoss wasn’t covered in snow, but it was still an impressive site to see and hike!

You don’t even need to leave the city to have incredible experiences. Reykjavik is home to some beautiful sights – especially along the waterfront where you can see mountains in all directions.

For a romantic meal that features all the flavours of Iceland, I recommend Grillmarkurdurin’s tasting menu. From puffin to minke whale, we couldn’t decide which dish was our favourite! It was the perfect way to end our time in Reykjavik.

I couldn’t imagine a better place to visit for Valentine’s Day or other special occasion than Iceland! It had everything we wanted and more. While we only spent five days there, we could have easily spent two weeks exploring.

Cappadocia – Turkey

Recommended by Lara from The Best Travel Gifts

One of the most romantic destinations in the world to take your love (in my humble opinion of course) is Cappadocia in Turkey. It’s honestly one of the most beautiful places I have ever visited, and I would recommend anyone (with or without a partner) to visit.

But the otherworldly landscapes, cute and Instagramable dining spots, and of course, the romantic hot air balloon rides are what make it one of the most romantic places in the world. In fact, when I visited last year,  I promised myself (and my future partner) to come back and go on a hot air balloon together.

Now, you may have already realized that hot air ballooning is the number one thing to do with your love here and a fantastic Valentine or anniversary gift. But besides that, watching the sunrise while other balloons take off from a viewing point or a restaurant (Haruna restaurant is a very romantic spot for that) is another must.

Hiking together in one of the many gorgeous valleys is another highlight. Make sure you stick around the viewing points for sunset because they are spectacular. Of course, you’ll have to take your Valentine to Love Valley, just because of its name (and perhaps because of the random penis-shaped rock formations which gave the valley its name).

Once you’ve finished all your active activities for the day, it’s time to soak in some Turkish culture and enjoy a delicious and traditional Cappadocian meal called testi (Pottery Kebab) at another cute restaurant such as Topdeck Cave. And then spend the night at one of the unique cave houses that are turned into boutique hotels. Ideally, you would spend a minimum of 4 days in the region. Though, personally, I would aim for at least a week. Trust me, even with a week, you wish you’d had planned longer!

Asia & Oceania

The Asia and Oceanic regions truly have some of the most romantic destinations in the world. Gorgeous landscapes, beautiful pristine beaches with romantic hideaways, all-inclusive adults only resorts and infinity pools. Delicious restaurants and activities that go from relaxing to adventurous in a heartbeat. It’s not hard to find somewhere romantic for your next couples’ getaway.

Koh-Mok – Thailand

Recommended by Abi from  I’m Going On An Adventure

If you’re in search for one of the ultimate secluded romantic destinations in the world for you and your love.  There’s no better place than the small island of Koh Mook in South Thailand. It’s a tropical paradise where the beaches are lined with palm trees and it’s completely disconnected from the rest of the world.

The island is so remote that not even cars have graced its shores meaning it has hardly been touched by tourism and is the perfect place to escape the fast-paced city life. You will need at least 5 days on the island, but a week’s holiday is ideal considering it takes a day of travel to reach it.

There isn’t much happening on the island apart from stunning beaches and jungle walks. It’s the perfect place to relax, take in the sea air, and enjoy a spa at one of the boutique resorts along the beachfront. One of the best places to stay is Sivalai Beach Resort which is perfectly established to cater for romantic getaways.

One activity that can’t be missed during your trip is visiting the captivating Emerald Cave. It’s accessed through a cave, with the entrance on the water. The way gets completely dark before opening up into the centre of an ancient, collapsed limestone cliff which created a fascinating sinkhole. With tall trees, monkeys and a sandy shore it’s a romantic place to spend a few hours!

Taipei – Taiwan

Quebec City – Quebec, Canada

Recommended by Melissa from My Beautiful Passport

Quebec City is a picturesque city in north-eastern Quebec and is one of the best romantic destinations in the world to take your Love in Canada. Famous for its French culture, European architecture, and cobblestone streets, Quebec City is great for a romantic weekend getaway and beyond. Admire century-old buildings while wandering through intricate cobblestone roads and experience a taste of Europe without leaving North America.

While beautiful year-round, winter is one of the best times to visit Quebec City, especially near Valentine’s Day when love fills the air. When visiting this romantic city, start in the heart of old Quebec and walk along Quebec City’s prettiest streets. With so many adorable streets, it was hard for me to pick a favourite! Some companies offer walking tours if you don’t wish to follow my self-guided tour.

This is one of the delightfully romantic destinations in world if you need another reason to visit with your Love?

Here are a few fun things to do together in Quebec City in February: Stay at the iconic Chateau Frontenac for a cozy getaway or try a unique stay by sleeping in a hotel made of ice. Visit the city’s famous winter festival Carnival, during the first half of February. Dine on delicious French cuisine. Toboggan at Dufferin Terrace. Go ice skating in Old Quebec and then warm up with hot cocoa. And when you finish in Old Quebec, don’t forget to visit Montmorency Falls: Quebec City’s beautiful waterfall.

The charming city of Quebec City is a perfect place to bring your Valentines for the weekend or longer. Planning for more than a romantic weekend? Choose a longer stay in Quebec and combine visiting Quebec City with Montreal or stay in Quebec City and use it as a starting point while also exploring small towns nearby.

Boulder – Colorado, USA

Recommended by Amber from Amber Everywhere

For outdoor enthusiasts this is one of the most romantic destinations in the world to bring your Love. Spending a romantic getaway at the foot of the Rocky Mountains in Boulder, Colorado, perfect for Valentine’s Day. The area is full of outdoor activities in February, from snowshoeing in stunning Rocky Mountain National Park to skiing at Eldora Mountain Ski Resort. Boulder is the perfect place to spend a memorable and special holiday with your loved one.

When I’m in Boulder, I try to stay near Pearl Street to ensure that I’m walking distance from most of my favourite spots. For my perfect Valentine’s Day, I’d start by grabbing a coffee and breakfast at Alpine Modern and then I’d walk to Chautauqua Park for a light hike at the base of the foothills. If it’s not muddy and I have enough energy, I might even hike Royal Arch. Then, I’d wander back towards Pearl Street and walk up and down the pedestrian mall.

I always stop at Piece, Love and Chocolate, the local chocolatier in Boulder, for delicious truffles in interesting flavours. My favourite is the champagne truffle, which is a ganache filled with pop rocks to create a sparkling effect. The shop is adorned in red hearts all year, but it’s especially festive for Valentine’s Day. I would also stop to admire the wooden jigsaw puzzles at Liberty Puzzles.

I’d end the night with a romantic dinner at one of the trendy restaurants on Pearl Street. Or, if my date and I don’t mind driving, I’d head to Il Pastaio for freshly made pasta.

I’d recommend spending at least two days in Boulder, especially if you enjoy the outdoors. If you’d like to also explore the areas around Boulder, consider booking a longer trip and dedicating a day to visiting spots like Rocky Mountain Park, Denver, and Nederland.

Lake Tahoe – California

Recommended by Meg of Fox in the Forest

One of the best romantic destinations in the world to bring your Love has got to be Lake Tahoe, California.

After all, this exquisite alpine like in the Sierra Nevada Mountains positively oozes romance with its stunningly blue waters and incredible mountain landscapes. Plus, it’s an ideal destination at any time of year since I loved cozying up next to a roaring fire after skiing all day at Heavenly Mountain Resort. It’s easily one of the best ski resorts in Lake Tahoe and just an all-around great place to spend the day.

Conversely, I also have a blast going on a romantic hike with my partner and checking out all the stunning views of the lake during a fun summer hike at Emerald Bay. Just be sure to bring your bathing suit since there are a ton of great beaches to explore along the way.

Additionally, Lake Tahoe is one of those magical places where I feel like I could enjoy a fun weekend getaway or spend a full week experiencing all the romantic activities that this vibrant place has to offer.

However, one of my favourite things to do is take a ride on the Heavenly Gondola and marvel at the sweeping views of the lake. No question at all this is one of the most romantic destinations in the world. It’s especially nice in the fall when the foliage is vibrant and when you can warm up with a nice cup of cocoa at the top.

My partner and I then went on a day trip to Sierra Hot Springs and got extra cozy there before indulging in a couples massage at the Ritz Carlton Spa. It’s a great way to unwind and decompress before having a romantic dinner for two at Pianeta Ristorante. Get the Chicken Marsala and thank me later.

Key West – Florida, USA

Recommended by Victoria of Florida Trippers

If you’re not sure about the best romantic destinations in the world for your Love, then try booking a romantic getaway to Key West, Florida.

After all, this tropical island oasis is brimming over with romantic activities that are just waiting to be enjoyed. Personally, my partner and I loved going for a romantic stroll through this city’s Old Town before we made out way to the historic Ernest Hemingway House. It’s a lovely little spot where you can go back and time and learn a bit about the how the author really lived.

Another fun activity we loved was walking through the tranquil gardens of the Key West Butterfly & Nature Conservatory. It’s such a soothing place with its enchanting water fountains and lovely floral displays. Plus, it’s home to upwards of 80 species of butterfly that are join by a variety of birds, fish, and turtles too.

Whatever you do though you can’t leave Key West without trying their signature dessert, the Key Lime Pie. And while there are many places to go to sample this tasty treat, my partner and I loved the Key Lime Pie at Salute! On The Beach. Making this one of the best romantic destinations in the world. Not only can you dine right on the beach but they offer a unique spin on this classic treat since the slice is served with refreshing meringue, not whipped cream.

However, if you don’t feel like dining at this restaurant, you could always grab a slice to go and have a nice little picnic at Fort Zachary State Park. We thought this fort from the Civil War was really interesting. We also loved that its home to one of the quieter beaches in the area, making it a great place to go for a lovely stroll on the beach.

Mexico and the Caribbean

Relax along the Pacific coast or visit the Carribean for relaxing resort filled fun. Amazing sunsets, stunning views, for those that like a little adventure diving, and hiking on these tropical paradises are a must. Perfect for relaxing romantic getaways.

Cabo San Lucas – Mexico

Recommended by Daria from The Discovery Nut

Located on the southern tip of Baja California Peninsula, Cabo San Lucas is one of the most popular destinations in Mexico.

Cabo boasts some of the best resorts in Mexico with gorgeous designs and stunning views of the Sea of Cortez. It’s a perfect place to take your Valentine.

Book a sunset boat tour to treat your Valentine to an amazing sunset where you can see the spectacular colors.

Cabo San Lucas is also home to Lands’ End, which can be easily recognized by the famous arch. This area divides the Sea of Cortez from the Pacific Ocean on both sides of the Baja California Peninsula.

Aside from classic things that many couples enjoy like resorts, golfing, and basking in the sun, Baja California is an outdoor heaven, with amazing opportunities for recreation that include diving, hiking and mountain biking.

All you need to do is get away from the resort area and you will discover a myriad of cool opportunities for outdoor fun with your Valentine.

While Cabo is a popular weekend getaway for many travelers from the United States and Mexico, you can spend a couple of weeks exploring the region. Rent a car in Cabo San Lucas and get on the road.

Some of the most popular places in the region are Cabo Pulmo, Todos Santos, La Paz and Loreto.

Whether it's a special occasion such as Valentine's Day, anniversary or a romantic couples getaway, you won't be disappointed. This is a perfect place to unwind, relaxing with the one you love. There is truly something for everyone to enjoy in this, one of the most romantic destinations in the world. To explore all that Grand Cayman has to offer we recommend a 7-10 day itinerary, you are sure to find something for you and your love.

Under the full moon you can enjoy the Luna Del Mar at Kaibo restaurant, a romantic feast, before releasing a sky lantern with a wish. Take a cruise, kayak or helicopter ride to watch the sun set over the horizon. Enjoy a couples massage at Seven Mile Beach or a private dinner in your own cabana on the beach. St Croix - U.S. Virgin Islands

Recommended by Marian from Discovering Anew

Imagine being whisked away on a Caribbean Island as you relax on a gorgeous beach dotted with palm trees enjoying a rum drink in your hand. Saint Croix is the ideal as one of the most romantic destinations in the world, for couples craving warmth and connection during dreary winter days.

The largest of the four U.S. Virgin Islands, St. Croix provides quiet secluded beaches and unique outdoor adventures. I recommend at least a week-long trip to fully experience all that Saint Croix has to offer. Getting there is easy since a passport for US citizens isn’t required. Plus, it’s only a 3-hour flight from most airports on the East Coast, which translates to more time soaking in the sun and less time traveling. Accommodations include resort style hotels to beach front condos.

Looking for memorable experiences, here are the Best Things to Do in Saint Croix. Don’t miss the opportunity to snorkel or scuba dive in one of the top spots in the whole United States.

By far our favorite adventure, was sailing to Buck Island Reef to snorkel through an incredible underwater trail where we saw sting rays, turtles, and hundreds of tropical fish. Other romantic island excursions available include hiking to the tidal pools, horseback riding on the beach and experiencing a bioluminescent kayak tour at night.

With a variety of top-notch Caribbean and seafood dining options, the only casino in the Islands, two rum distilleries you can tour, and charming artisanal boutiques in Frederiksted; St. Croix checked all our boxes for an unforgettable vacation. To help you start planning your romantic getaway, here is the Ultimate Travel Guide for Saint Croix, with recommendations on hotels, transportation, dining options and travel tips.
