Situated inside The Silo Hotel of Launceston. This restaurant, focusses not only using local produce to create seasonal menus, but meeting and celebrating the producers of Tasmania. Food Director Massimo Mele, Executive Chef Thomas Pirker and Head Chef Mika Chae ensure the emphasis of the food served at the Grain of Silos, is the best produce Tasmania can offer.

A regular favourite of ours, the experiences we have had at this restaurant with family and friends has always been exceptional.

The events held at this restaurant makes this Food Scientists heart sing, a highlight being a meet the producer’s dinner, which is shaping up to be an annual event. Where you are able to sit amongst the producers and really get to know them and their produce. With paired Tasmanian wines, with several from the Tamar Valley vineyards.

We have often eaten breakfast here, our family favourites are the pancakes with poached pear and mascarpone and hazelnuts or the eggs benedict with hollandaise sauce that makes you go…Mmmmm.

Gnocchi or Pasta are often making it to the table, however the scotch fillet never disappoints. With the chefs always preparing and cooking to perfection. What would dinner be without dessert and hands down favourite is the chocolate cigar, it’s divine.

The entire staff are exceptional, always smiling, and pride themselves in their service, preparation and attentiveness, it is always a delight to eat here. Is it any wonder the Grain makes it to our list of delicious restaurants around Launceston.

Hallams Waterfront Restaurant

Situated on the waterfront of Launceston, this is truly one of the most exceptional seafood restaurants…If not the most exceptional seafood restaurant in Launceston. Dine inside in the newly renovated space or outside on the deck (heated). The menu of fresh local seafood they offer is one of the reasons Hallams Waterfront is on our most delicious restaurants around Launceston.

It’s just one of the reasons we love to come here for lunch or dinner. In addition to having a marvellous ambience, the staff are always most welcoming and friendly.

Rest assured, whilst Hallams is predominantly a seafood restaurant at heart. You will also discover the menu contains, delectable lamb and beef dishes, as well as a selection of vegetarian meals. With a dessert and cheese menu that are amazing, showcasing local produce.

When dining for lunch, our choice is always make a selection of small plates. These are plentiful with a choice of oysters, entrèe, sides and of course dessert. Leaving the mains, for a dinner menu with a delightful variation of rissotto (which is beautiful), pasta market fish and local lamb and beef.

If you are a lover of fine water views and seafood, Hallams Waterfront is a must visit for you, an experience that is an absolute pleasure from the moment you enter. 

Stelo at Pierre’s

Situated inside the Launceston’s iconic Pierre’s restaurant site, which was established in 1956, offering an exquisite Italian menu. Stelo honour the local produce, with fresh handmade gnocchi, pasta and burrata (a specialty cheese), with many dishes only available with seasons. You are able to dine in one of the main dining areas, or a private area can be reserved for your party. In addition to having seating at the bar, which in winter becomes Oscura speakeasy bar (Friday nights-bookings required), offering cocktails, music, and more.

The Italian food here is meravigliosa (wonderful) with chef offering classic dishes adding a personal touch, that assures its place as one of the most delicious restaurants around Launceston because of this.

With such a fantastic menu it is like being transported back to Italy and always difficult to choose, whether dining for lunch or dinner. The gnocchi a favourite, delicious pillows with delicious accompaniments, fresh pappardelle and local beef ragu (takes one back to Bologna) and squid ink fettucine…all our favourites, the pasta is always perfection on a plate. We can’t forget dessert the Torta Caprese a delicious morsel that perfectly balances dark chocolate and espresso. The menu also offers a selection of vegan, gluten and dairy free dishes.

In addition to offering a lunch and dinner menu, Stelo have special experiences available throughout the year. The Oscura Speakeasy bar for one, though you may also wish to try Che’f’s Tasting menu available every dinner service and Thur-Fri for lunch. Alternatively, the Saturday lunch Share Fare menu, with Chef selecting local seasonal foods, which follow the antipasto and snacks. Whilst bookings are recommended for lunch and dinner, they are essential for special menus and events.

Be sure not to leave without a piece of Nonna’s delectable ‘any time (fruit) cake’ it will make your taste buds sigh. This cake alone would be enough to include Stelo in the most delicious restaurants around Launceston.

Positioned within The Sebel of Launceston, like the restaurants before, this restaurant honours locally produced ingredients. Offering a modern Australian menu with a subtle hint of Asian flavours infused throughout. With the local influence extending to the interior with Tasmania Oak and Bluestone used throughout. The restaurant design is a comfortable, contemporary layout, whether you are at the bar or lounging around the fireplace or seated at one of the tables. The exceptional experience starts before  you even get your menu. Open for breakfast lunch or dinner, the menu ensures you are spoilt for choice.

No matter what menu you choose to partake of the quality of food is consistent and superb, which is why its considered one of the most delicious restaurants around Launceston.

Lets talk menus, with all on offer at the Bluestone restaurant giving a hint of Asian infused through and alongside modern Australian dishes. Whether it’s a classic big breakfast (vegetarian or not) or nasi goreng first thing in the morning. Sitting down at lunch where the Asian influenced meals shine. Or dining on one of the succulent dishes in the evening. Whether its duck cooked to perfection with hoisin sauce, roasted dry aged beef with pepper sauce, local market fish or an Asian influenced curry. Their meals are superb, and we can’t forget desserts from panna cotta to mille feuille, your taste buds will thank you for dining here. 

Undecided on what to choose, let Chef do that for you with one of the Feed Me menus available, with a 2 or 3 course option. A selection of fine Tasmanian wine, beer and spirits are also on offer at the bar to enjoy before, during and after your meal. Cataract on Paterson

Located on the edge of Launceston CBD, across from Kings Park on the edge of the Tamar River. Supporting the local farmers and sourcing produce not only in the north but across the state like many of the other restaurants. The design is a little quirky, adding industrial design to elegant features, with both main and private dining areas. Additionally, you will find the bar area as you enter, with warm friendly staff and a brilliant cocktail menu. Don’t be fooled by this unassuming restaurant, it is full of surprises. Which start with the menus, which are substantial in the offerings. Whether you choose meals from the garden, the paddock or sea you won’t be disappointed. The choices are abundant will it be locally sourced medley of mushrooms crumbed or a Tasmanian scallop from the sea pan seared and dressed in local produce to start. The mains consist of slow cooked meals, pasta, ribs and seafood, the seafood platter is always a top pick and absolutely delicious. You also have the option for a char grilled meal of a variety of cuts.

However, they also have the epitome of paddock to plate (or stone in this case) with the stonegrill™. An offering of prime meat cuts, served to you, fresh or marinated on your stone. You are also able to have fresh atlantic salmon and scallops on the stone. Is it any wonder this makes it as one of the delicious restaurants around Launceston? We haven’t even got to dessert…I have to say you can read the menu over and over, but any these desserts are spectacular in flavour and appearance. Well known for the panookies they make, pizza and frozen stone options to name just a few. 

If you are unable to choose, which is understandable, they have the *surprise me* plate. Options available for entree, mains and desserts, though numbers are limited and subject to availability.  

In addition to these amazing selections, you can join in for a little theatre and partake in one of a themed High Tea that is available once a month. Bookings are highly recommended for the restaurant including main dining and High Teas.

Buddha Thai

Placed in Charles Street across from Princes Park, this unassuming restaurant appears a little worn on the outside. But don’t let appearances fool you, the delicious meals served out of this little kitchen are huge on flavour and an absolute pleasure to consume. Focusing on bring the best flavours from all over Thailand and delivering them to you on a plate. As mentioned, for us it is all about the food, which makes this choice more than worthy of a place in our most delicious restaurants around Launceston. As the food is delicious and the menu varied.

So lets talk menu, open for lunch and dinner the meals you get at Buddha Thai are packed with flavour. The go to starters are the spring rolls, dim sims and salt and pepper squid. However, you also won’t be disappointed ordering the dumplings or the Tom Yum Koong and Tom Kha Kai they are absolutely delicious.

The base is where it’s all at for this restaurant so you will find a selection of bases on the menu, where you can then choose an accompanying protein source. Catering for vegetarian and gluten free options so there is something for everyone here. I have to say the flavours delivered by the bases certainly having you sighing and wanting more. Whilst our go to meals include chili and basil or spicy chilli herb, the garlic and pepper and ginger and shallot are a delight. These can be paired with a protein source of Beef, Chicken, Duck, Prawn, Tofu or you can order Vegetable only. 

You can also choose from a selection of side dishes (rice and noodles) and desserts. It truly is a flavoursome adventure coming to this delicious around Launceston. Whilst walk-ins are welcome and often accommodated, to ensure you get a spot to sit in the little restaurant, a booking is recommended.

Kosaten Launceston

An exceptional Japanese restaurant at the top end of Launceston CBD. Whilst the front may be unassuming, once you enter the uniquness of this restaurant is anything but unassuming. The decor and aromas coming from the kitchen are exceptional. As well as being able to order from an iPad at your table, which is then delicered via a sushi train that traverses the whole establishment.  The meals served are nothing short of delicious and what better reason for it to be added to the delicious restaurants around Launceston.

This extensive menu never disappoints, whether it’s a traditional sushi styles (nigiri, rolls, sashimis) or one of the classic dishes available. For the non sushi loving people the classic dishes such as  Japanese fried or teriyaki chicken, pork belly or lamb cutlet to yoou liking. You will also find many vegetarian and gluten free meals available. 

The Wagyu beef three ways, salmon nigiri, tempura prawns and Japanese fried chicken are regular favourites. With the salmon and wasabi leaf and volcano sushi for those that like a little spice. The meals and service are amazing and the staff so pleasant, is it any wonder it’s included in the most delicious restaurants around Launceston. Whilst walk-ins are welcome, it is recommended to book ahead to save missing out.

Rupert & Hound

Situated at the lower end of Seaport in what was once a fish & chip shop, the owners honour this by continuing the seafood tradition.  With a refreshing elegant style to the décor and what can only be described as a pleasurable seafood experience. With a focus on sustainability, ensuring all produce sourced is the most sustainable and ethically produced as possible. Which like so many restaurants around Tasmania this is done from liked minded producers. However, they don’t just stop there repurposing the oil collected from the restaurant into biodiesel. This restaurant goes further than just being one of the delicious restaurants around Launceston with their ethical ethos. 

In addition to great food, the bar serves innovative cocktails that can be enjoyed at the bar or over a meal.

Whilst many of the signature dishes consist of seafood offering, with the seafood platter being sensational. Including Peking duck or mushroom pancakes and pork or cailiflower tacos to start. To be continued by a selection of wonderful seafood either batter or crumbed, complementing pasta in a creamy sauce or a delightful Boullabaisse. In addition to a marinated lamb a slow cooked beef cheek or hand rolled and pan fried gnocchi. 

There truly is something for everyone on all the menus, taking into account many varying diets. A truly exceptional inclusion to the delicious restaurants around Launceston. Timbre Kitchen

You will find this restaurant is a little out of the Launceston CBD at Velo Wines. What could be considered the first of the Tamar Valley wineries, just out of Launceston moving along the river. The restaurant has a fantastic casual décor and atmosphere being able to eat in or outside depending on weather and mood, overlooking the vines grown on the estate. In keeping with the tradition of showcasing Tasmanian local produce, the menu is constantly changing to enhance, all the varying seasons have to offer. With a constantly evolving menu it’s difficult to recommend particular dishes, however it can be said there is little on the menu that doesn’t disappoint (maybe brussel sprouts – but that’s personal). What can be said is no matter if it’s beef, pork, chicken or lamb the meat is cooked to perfection. The savoury flavours are warming across the palate making your taste buds dance. The kitchen is also renowned for loving a challenge and are happy to create something for special dietary requirements on short notice. Open for lunch Thur-Sun and dinner Fri-Sat nights, the friendly staff will accommodate you, providing exceptional service. Bookings are strongly recommended as this they book out very quickly.

Tuck away from the main streets of Launceston set in one of the townhouses across from brickfields park, this café – restaurant, is only open for breakfast and lunch.  That said it serves some of the most amazing food on offer in the city thus its inclusion to the most delicious restaurants around Launceston is sealed. Did I mention the coffee is also one of the best cups around Launceston and amazing staff?

The menu for such a small establishment is substantial, offering an all day breakfast menu, that consists of pancakes four ways as a start to your dining delight. With over 20 further breakfast dishes to choose from. You have a choice of eating inside or  you can enjoy a table inside or outside with a view of the park.

With such an impressive breakfast menu it seems difficult to think this can be topped though it seems they can. For lunch you have a selection of pasta or rice dishes, vegetarian, salads burgers, wraps seafood, soups or even schnitzel. Each item with several option available you are certainly spoilt for choice at this hidden gem.

So popular with the local is this little café that it is recommended to make a booking no matter what time of day you intend to visit. Brisbane Street Bistro

One of Launceston’s iconic restaurants and a list of delicious restaurants around Launceston would be incomplete without this one. Set in one of the old terrace houses along Brisbane Street with a sumptuous classic interior of a by gone era. That matches the French inspired menu, with eclectic contemporary Australian food. With the owners stating ‘there is no such thing as perfect food, and that striving each day for perfection is ultimately about making people happy’. From the most current reviews it would appear that Head Chef, Ian Lewis and Maître d’hôtel, Sarah Willis have achieved just that.

It has been too long since dining at the delightful restaurant and the menu inspires a much overdue return. Upholding the time old Tasmanian restaurant tradition of showcasing seasonal local produce Brisbane Street Bistro is no exception. With the seasonal changing menu there is something for everyone to enjoy. Entrees from seafood to pork belly, whilst mains include a variety of vegetarian, fish, duck and beef dishes that will make you taste buds sing at the descriptions. The dessert continue the theme of something for everyone, a mix that includes a classic chocolate inclusion, a non dairy inclusion and a twist on a classic French dessert. 

If the menu makes it hard to decide, try the degustation menu, which offers 6 of the various meals from the menu. With more available on request at an additional charge and the option to have matching wines.  As said, this is one of Launceston’s icons, though the menu, reviews and setting cements it as one of the truly delicious restaurants around Launceston.

Stillwater

Another iconic restaurant of Launceston located in an 1840’s flour mill overlooking the Tamar river. The view can be absolutely stunning, whilst eating, which can be requested when you are booking. Here you will find fine dining with a casual atmosphere and ambience. In true tradition of Tasmania’s restaurants, fresh local produce is the star to all the dishes served out of this kitchen. The care and attention to detail alone makes it one of the delicious restaurants around Launceston.

You will find they are open 7 days for breakfast and lunch, whilst dinner is only served Tue-Sat. The love of local extend to the wine and spirit list with some choice samples among the list. Walking into this restaurant you met with smiling faces, a warm welcome and exceptional service. A private dining area is available for special events, before visiting it is recommended that you book to save disappointment.

The executive Chef has a love for fresh local produce which is reflected in the dishes served, the menus are ever changing with the seasons. With Tasmania being an island state many restaurants have strong seafood dishes. Stillwater is no exception to this observation, with Tasmanian oysters, salmon, and market fish available. Additionally, you will find many dishes on the menu suited to a vegetarian diet. The breakfast menu never disappoints whether it’s their freshly toasted granola, fruit and yoghurt or a full breakfast of eggs, sausages, with accompaniments. The coffee is always delightful. Lunch offers snack, small and large dishes, of which the Laska is a favourite closely followed the chicken breast and pork belly on offer.

Dinner takes the menu up just one more level if that’s possible, with a selection of snacks, entree’s, mains and dessert. Once again Tasmanian local produce is showcased with exceptional care executing beautifully tasting dishes. Whether it’s the heirloom beetroot, octopus, or quail you choose you won’t be dissatisfied.

A modern Indian restaurant serving Punjabi cuisine. Dedicated to authentic Indian cuisine, utilising traditional aromatic Indian spices. That is reflected by the blends of flavours, crafted into magnificent dishes.
